Short film Techniques
Camera: Movement

Movement of camera, is the direction of what the camera is moving to, this contains pan, tilt , dolly , zoom and track. It is overall a camera that is not in a static positions.
Where we can see techniques of movement is at 2:00 , where the actors is on the ground crawling to an object, we see the camera movement of tracking upwards with the character, to reveal what is he is chasing an small object.
Why this may have been used by the director Christopher Nolan is that, he may wanted to follow the character movement , and to revel to us what he was running after , by revealing it with the same motion movement of character. This may also be used to show the felling and the paces of the short film, and the tempo that it is at, in this case the movement is slow and gradual as the Nolan wants to gradually show the sense. The effects that this has on the viewer is that it allows them to follow the character , it give a sense to them that there are moving with the character , then for the character.
Where I have used movement in my own work is in my short film about, "Drug, relationship and abuse", where i had uses a tracking short of the drug dealer, walking to open the door, I had used the same pace of movement of what the character did. This was to follow the character in same time to reveal of who was at the door, it allowed me to give the scenes of the audience is following the characters.
Lighting: Creating Shadows 1:56

Creating shadows is a techniques that is used to block light to create a dark shape that represents the object or person, this could also be used to show time of day
Where the creating of shadows is shown is at 1:56 where the character is running after an object and a shadow is created to the wall. due to the filming being in black and white it is hard to determine if this is natural or artificial lighting creating the shown, as from the angle of the shows i see that it is from the sun.
The reasoning of what Nolan had created shadows in doodlebug was to give a representation of that there are two character. The shadow had help with creating depth into the character, to show that he is real. This also help with showing that the shadows is copying the same action of the character, where it is later shown of where he repeat the same attack. The effect that this has on the viewer is that its giving hits to them, it also allows them to see that the light which acts like the sun give the character a second life.
I have not used the technique of shadows in my work, I intend to do in future project, to create a depth on the character and to emphasise the light that is creating this. For example if touch was used for a horror film and could be used to show shows of object and to create a more intense scene.
Sound: Sound Mixing 1:04

Sound mixing is a techniques that is used at the sound stage of a film, what this initially is , the overlapping of sound and pitching and adjusting the level , to create single flow of one time line.
Where sound mixing is clearly show is at 1:04 where there are multiple layer of sound place over each other with different levels of sound. As there is the sound of the phone ear speaker of someone speaking and the ticking of the clock, which is placed at different level of how close the camera is to the object.
Why Nolan had used sound mixing in doodlebug, was to emphasise on the sound that was disturbing the character and making him feel uncomfortable. The mixing allowed Nolan to create detail of digetic sound and to represent the character hear and what he is initially hearing. The effects that this had on the viewer is that it create a scene of making a blank shot have life into , to add sound that represent the life to the storyline.
Where I have used sound mixing is in my ultra short film, were there is a sense of the main character receiving a notification on his phone. What I had did here is that I had placed the first level of sound at the back which was the wild cat, then added the digetic sound with the notification sound on top, this was to emphasise the sound.
Editing:Visual effects 2:27

Visual effects is a demonstrations of using effects that is not possible to do, this could be using CGI or green screen to preform an shot that cant be down for help from editorial effects.
Where you see visual effects in doodlebug is at 2:27, where this is a effects of the character being in a shrunken down form. What this initial is a tiny person that has been added in with effect that enable this this could be done from green screen or CGI.
Christopher Nolan has used visual effects to portray the level of status that that character has each time, as we see a small version on him compared normal human to show that he is weak , then we see a larger version of him shown the normal one of him is weak. This overall helps Nolan with is showing a vision of weakness that is not possible to create. The effect that this has on the viewer is to show something that is abnormal and not real as this also help with keeping the audience interest.
I have not done a lot with visual effects, but I have used the green screen effect in the Live day BTS video of where I had replaced the back ground Doreen screen with pictures this was to keep the frame looking full and not boring to the viewer.
Scripting: Body Language 1:32

Body language is used to representation of the statues and mood of the emotions and physicality of there character, it is the body of where it defines the effects of the story.
The body language from the script is show at 1:32 from the character. What is initially shown is that he is sitting on the ground with his legs against his chest, with his arms curled up to his chest and his head lowered down.Where he has experience something uncomfortable and shown by him curling up.
Why Nolan had use this technique of body language for scripting was to create a emotion for the audience to feel of the character, you can see from this language that he is feeling paranoid and weak. This also brings across the effects on the situation and how it has impact the character life. The effects that this has on the viewers is to notice that the character has human features and feel like a human, it has a connection between each other.
I have used this technique in my short film , of where the victim that was being abused, had his body language on the ground that he had been beaten up and that he was vunrable. Why I had include this was to show that he wasn't on the same level as the victim and had to shown his body language as looking uncomfortable and the antagonist of having there head high to show strength.
Building a scene: Climatic Battle 2:39

Climatic battle battle is a scene where there is fight happening between two people, that has been help to the peek at its movements and had been ended at a final point that help finishes the scene.
The climate battle is shown at 2:39 where the character is having a chase and a fight with its miniature and future self. We see at the end that he had killed him self with a shoe moments before and experience when he had realised that was him, as the scene was ended at this moment.
Nolan had used the technique of climatic battle , to keep the audience engaged, this was to make the storyline become for tense this was also able to show of what they feel about each other. As this idea of killing yourself, has a scene of the character loosing there mind and not realising that he is killing him self. The effects that it has on the audience was they get to see action in the story which tend to add more energy to the scene, it create a feel of who is going to win this battle.
Where I have used a climatic battle is in my short film of what would you do, which is about friendship. What we see is that one of the friend is getting beaten up and his other come in and help and help my scaring of the antagonist, it gave the audience a sense of relief.
Building a story: Plot-Twist 2:36
A plot twist is a drastic change to the film , towards the story line. It is were you maintain the interest of the audience to find out it was someone or something else during the whole film.
We see the plot twist segment in doodlebug at 2:36 where the main character revels to himself that the small human was him, in the fire of time, and had a twist of what the small creature had felt so did he fell, in this case it was the boot.
Why Nolan had used plot twist to build a story, was that he wanted to maintain the audience engagement and keep.them on there seat ,as what he had did is that he had placed a section that was no expected which gave a drastic change to the story line of the character being the tiny human. The effects that it give to the audience's is that it makes them feel like they were fool and never knew the truth, this keep the idea of "of he has predicted his future.
Where I have used plot twist in my own personal work is in my ultra short film, where the main character on drug had to ,choose his girlfriend or drug dealer, and was viewed as him going to his girlfriend but later discovered that it was a different guy and he was cheating on him and he had went to the drug dealer. We had trick the audience and made them believe that he was going to his girlfriend.

Structures
Linear
The Linear structues is shown to be a chronological order of the story line, where each of the event has happened. It showsn the pattens that the storyline clearly. It its an much easier way for the audicne to follow the storyline of the drama. It has an domino effect, that each piece make sense of where it has gone and the timing of it.
An example of where you can see a liner structure is in Only Fools and Horse, which is a britsh sit-com that has been aired from 1981-2003. We seen on every episode that there is a clear narritive shown and is presented in a order that is easy for the audicne to understand.
Where you could see the linear structure in Only Fools and Horse is at 3:59, Del Boy says to Rodney that we gonna be taking the dog out for a walk , we then later on see that Rondey and Del Boyat 12:19 trying to take the dog out for a walk. The effct of this strcuture is that it is easy for the audicne to follow. The expetations of what will happen is eay to expect, becuase the audicne is following the storyline. It allows the each episode to have a containued direction of narritive.
Non-linear
Non-linear is a structure of that is out of chronilogical order. The narritive is usally disjointed or disturped the storline. Each episode that is presented does not show direct patten or colleratiosn of each scense, but only towards the end, the following of storyline makes scense to the audience.
The example that I used that displays a non-linear structure is Mr Robort, which is about a charater that is a cybersecirty engeneer during the day and a hacker by night.
How Mr Robort uses non-linera structure, were we can see this narrative structure hit in the trailer is at 0:07 is is underground at a subway station whereing a hood , as this discrips himself being in a back enviroment, then see wee a contrast in the next shot at 0:09 of him wearing work cloes at a desk. This is to show a reprsentaion that he is living two lives, as it tell you tat the storyline will be going back and forth in no order. The effect of this is that it withholdes information from the audicne which creates tension. It also beings to create question from the audience, as the storyline beings to be more engaging to them.

Flashback
An flashback structure is a stuture of the stoyline that evovles around or impacted by an event that has happend in the past, which is curitical to the storyline, as it gives a backstory to the primary sources that the viewer ar following. It is still shown at a linearner structuure to keep it easier for the audiecne to follow.
Blindspot is a NBC drama serire about a woment that lost all memory and only left with tatoos, to figure about who had dont this to here, as in each epsode there is a new information found out abut the tattos that links to the protagonist there are looking for, and she see memorys of who she is and how she got there.
How blindspot fits the the struture of flashback is that there is element that is used in the clips that difrent that the section is a flash back so at 0:08 there is a flash transtion, into a shot that has an effect of being retro and oldlike it it filmed in the past, what we also see is at 0:14 there is a flash back of little girl, that indictaes its the woments children hold and this has similar effect placed on it. Why this may be used is that it give context for the drama, it give information for the viwer to follow. This also allows it to be more in depth, as there is extra information for charcters, as this help the audcine to have more knowlege about the situation.

Realist
Realist is a narritive that is most related to spesific period dramas and docusrama that follow this narritive structure. It is the oen that fllows the rules of physic, cultures and human nature of it norm. It is the one that also shown events that has happenend or happening in its ture form of information of the action of the charcters on screen.
Where you would see a realist structure is in Narcos, which is a docudrama seriers about the life of Pablo Escarbor, the world most know drug lord ,and this is the reconstration of parts of his main events that have happens in the past that is well knoe to the audience.
How realistic structure fits Narcos is taht it displays footage and photagraphis from real events that have happends that they have reconstructed into the docudrama. We can see at 0:03 there is a real news report about Pablo as this is archie footage that the seiers had placed. We also see at 0:24 there are two DEA agents, from research there charcter where real DEA agenst taht went after Pablo Escabor. Why realist may be used as a strcutures it to make the story be more belivable to the audicne and to make the seres trusted to watch. It is also reliable due to the imformatiosn that they have gather and the details that they have placed, What this also could do is be relatable for the audicne that may have remeber the time that this event that had happend. The realist structure also allows the story to be more emotional for the viewer as it had really happenend for the charcter.

Anti-realist
Anti-realist narrative is a storing that is not possible in the real world. where it uses specifically effects to show the anti-realist physics, culture and other abnormalities. The genre that would
usually have this structure is sci-fi,fantasy,horror and near to all animation. Its is the one that bends and break the rules in human nature.
An example that uses an anti-realistic structure is The Flash, which is an seriers about a man that has the ability to run really fast. This drama shows an element of a human that is not normal and that is not physically possible, which is labled toward the sic-fi gener of seriers.
How The Flash fits the structure of anti-realistic is that the show contains an elemts of powers that are not physically possible. We can see at 2:29 that the main charter of the serier has the abillity to ran at 700mph, at this not not possible, for a human to do, as it is not in the norm, there is effects that are placed on the tarler that indercates that it is not realist for example at 2:50 there is a scenes that one of the portagonist has smaoke around him that he control, that is not possible for other to do, as this breaks to rules of physic. Why anit realist structure may be used is, that it allows producdues to creates content that will wow people, and that will say how is that done. It intaisl makes it more exciting for the viers, due to the freedom of creativity. this also allows the viewer to feel like there can escape from reality.
Ending
Open
Open narrative ending is a concept of the end of each episode the story is not solved and have to watch the next one to see the story resolved. This will be usually see as cliff hangers at each of the episode. Where this ending is usually seen in is Soap opera or dramas, that have there story line placed across the whole many episodes.
An example that use open ending all of the time is EastEnders , which is a UK soap opera that run 52 weeks a year and four times a week. EastEnders have been leaving cliff hangers also know as open ending from the time is was aired, as this is the most recognition from each episodes.
How this episodes fits the open ending is that there is an open ending at the end. How this is recognized is at 11:22 we can see that Mick is noticing something that had happened after the Bus crash , he then starts to hear at 11:30 a song set as a ring tone from some directions. We then see further on. We then see at 11:46 that mick is looking underneath the bus to give a idea of where the phone ringtone is coming from. We then see at 11:55 mick says "Whitney" (which is one of the character from the soap) while looking towards the button of the bus. we then see 12:00 of a shot of underneath the bus with darkness underneath, and it is faded into the black, and snatch away for the viewer to see if Whitney is underneath the bus. What this does is that it creates a dramatic sense that would lead to a event that is happening to a character. Why this does is that is give a persuasion to the
Closed
Closed narrative ending is the ending of a episode, that clearly show the finishing of the episode. This will follow the five step structure of Todorov theory of, haven stated the equilibrium, then there is a disturbance to the equilibrium, then there is a recognition of the disturbance, and the attempt to resolve it and the reinstatement of the equilibrium.
The example that I have used in this narrative structure is South Park. Which is is a season cartoon. that usally structure there episode in the Todorov theory of structure. It presents each episodes with a new storline each time.
How the narrative engages and impacts the viewers is they get to watch a new and different story line every time that they see the shown, Its like a different shown with the same character every time for the viewer. We see at 0:45 there is a equirlibrum, then we see at 9:30 there is a disturbancse to the equirlibrium, we then futher on see the disturburance, then there is a stage of repairig the eqilibrum at 15:30, then we see a resinstament of the equlibrium at 21:40. Why a closed endng may be used in south park is that it give satisfcation for the audience when the story is unfolded and there is a finish to the storyline. The audience knows that there will be something new gonna happen in per episode

Formats of single camera Productions
Format
Series
Series also known as season in America is a formats that run in television and online media, that contains a set number of episodes which tend to be ranged between 6-10. It usually have a large budget of this type of format.
An example for series is Taboo which is placed on BBC one, How this fits the format is that the show has 8 episodes in each series, it is currently on its third series. the budget for per episode for taboo is £2.5 million., The total budget that the Drama had spent on one series is £20 million.
The disadvantage for the broadcaster which in this case is the BBC is that they may not be able to keep up with popularity of the series which may lead them to cut of the show due to not having the budget as they cant keep the show consistent or to selling on to a different broadcaster. What else may be negative is that there won't be a lot of viewer , as there will be a low viewing figure because there wont be as many people that would know about is. The series may be a flop , that not a lot of the audience will be interested this will lead to the BBC losing out on the large budget that was placed.
The advantage for the BBC is that they will be able to bring in new views, because they may have an interest in the topic or the actors, for example one of the actors staring is Tom Hardy , which is well recognised for Films as the features in TV will able to bring in film enthusiast from his work, The BBC will be able to promote a new show, as there will be able to show off there new product. The producers will places the show in certain times that will be popular and would allows a large audience to recognises the time slot and comeback for future episodes.

Serial
Serial is a format that is placed on television that runs 52 weeks in a year, this type of format is a popular in the UK and the south/central of America. They of have a large cast of character that are based around a small location, They usually are a low budge per episodes.
An example of a serial format is Hollyoaks which runs 52 weeks in a year. There are five episodes placed every week. The budget for each episode is £500,000. There is a large number of character in the shows ranger from the elderly- to children, which tend to relate to the viewer.
The disadvantage for channel 4 of having a serial program, is the storyline in the serial tend to drag on and this can lead to viewing being board and departing from the show, this would mean that the serial would get less viewing figure. The creativity of the show has a lack and there is no innovated ideas. The serial format also constrains the channel as its the most popular program and if that goes down the whole broadcaster has to as well as they relies on the shown to bring in viewer. There is a lot of competition which mean it harder to stand out.
The advantage for the broadcaster in this case is Channel 4 ,is the serial format allows them to have loyal viewer, as there will know that people would comeback and watch again. The serial format allows channel 4 to fill in the time without spending any money on a new program, for example on a Saturday morning they air the weekly recap of Hollyoaks. Channel 4 one of its popular shows on their channel is Hollyoak it has an estimated over 1 million viewer per episode, as serial tend to be the most popular in the UK.

Single drama
Single Drama is a one off that tends to have a high budget. This format usually focus on telling one story that focuses on one character. This format could be a originally film idea that was not funded or a series that could get a support, it usually has narrative of it is a similar to a films.
An example of single drams is Murdered by my Boyfriend. how this fits the critter is that the single dram had does not have any sequels or any leading next episodes. The Budget of murdered by my boyfriend was £6 million
The disadvantage to BBC three of having a single camera productions is that there is no pre-existing audience , because there haven't not made multiple episode, due to it being a single drama. The single drama format has a lot of investment into the program, which mean that there is high chance of a loss of money, due to it not having the the audience and the popularity of other shows. There is not a lot of this format shown on TV now days, which mean that there is a risk to the BBC producing it because not many people would see it.
The advantages to the BBC three of having a single drama is it allows them to show a story in one showing, as it could help them condense down the times and the budget into a smaller one. The format idea usually be new and fresh that, not a lot of people have seen before, it allows the BBC to show there creativity, it gives the single drama more value. The single drama becomes a novelty because it a one of it kind that BBC has produced .

Genre
Period
Period is genre of drama, that is set in a place in the past, that could be from hundreds of years ago or somewhat recent. It often has a high budget that is usually placed towards the mise-en-scene, mainly towards the costume and locations, there are often shot in real places and street.
An example of a period drama is Peaky Blinders, it has a budget of per episode of £1 million. The drama is set in a time of 1920s. It is a gangster drama that is set in locations that is post-war in Birmingham. It has a large cast, with 26 staring characters.
In peaky blinder we can see a mid shot at a straight on angle which an pan to right movement of Tommy (Cillian Murphy)who is standing near glasses and jug, with a background of lamp and a book shelf at 0:13. The meaning of this is the pan movement shows that he has just enter the room and transcripts the movement to the camera movement, the mid shot shows the audiences his body language and creates a representations of his relationship between (Alfie) Tom hardy. The editing of this shows is dark with the centre of only being light, which connotes to the audience the meaning of how important the relationship , the centre light connotes the energy they have between them.
In the next shows we see a clear continuity flow of Tommy(Cillian Murphy) still in the same position, we then see a shot of Alfie( Tom Hardy) at 0:20, with close up, with a slight high angle with non movement involved. The connotation of this shot is that it shows Tom Hardy's Facial expression and shows his mood and in this shows he is clam , but followed on with some confusions. The camera placement placed to the right of the screen to create talking space between Cillian Murphy which is in the background on the left. The editing of this shots shows the bright light on Tom hardy to clearly show him this is also helped with dark background. the lamp light helps light up Cillian Murphy to show he is still there.
What we them see is a two shots at a straight angle with a pan to the left of Tommy(Cillian Murphy) and Alfie( Tom Hardy) at 1:00 . The angle of this shots connotes that the relationship between the two is pure with no high or low, as there tell each other what is what, and what there need to know. Pan from the shot connotes the foreshadows that the conversations would move on to be something bigger, this has also shown by the silhouette from the bright light and there body. The editing in this shot shows the lighting of the set of being bright but yet dark. to have a contrast between the relationship, and to visuals inform to the audience that the conversation could go both ways of being bad or good.
